@filamsports is thrilled to announce the addition of Malea Cesar (@malea.cesar) to our team.
A current member of the Philippine Women's National Team, Malea played a key role in their qualification for the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia. Her connection to Philippine athletics runs deep, with her father, Ben, having also competed for the Philippine National Team. Currently, Malea is a sophomore at Trinity University in Texas.
Malea's family roots extend across the Philippines, with her grandparents hailing from Cavite and Pangasinan.
"As a Fil-Am, representing the Philippines allows me to connect with my culture and heritage," says Malea. "But it's not just about personal connection; it's about showcasing the Philippine flag on the global stage.
Growing up, the Philippine Women's National Team (PWNT) lacked international visibility. Breaking barriers with the Filipinas and inspiring young athletes is incredibly meaningful to me. I'm also honored to follow in my father's footsteps in representing our country." Reflecting on her Filipino upbringing, Malea emphasizes the importance of family. "The way we prioritize family, extending beyond blood ties to embrace connection, is a beautiful Filipino custom. My family and teammates on the PWNT have instilled a strong 'family first' mindset in me. We support each other without hesitation. The Filipino sense of humor is unparalleled, and I'm grateful to have learned to approach life with positivity and find joy in the little things."
Looking ahead, Malea's goal is to continue representing the Philippines, both on and off the field. "I hope to keep playing football, working in the sports industry, and showing young Filipinas that they can achieve anything they set their minds to."
