We are pleased to announce that Fiona Lobedecis (@eloniadiving) has joined the @filamsports team. Fiona will be attending the University of Michigan, where she will compete as a member of the Wolverines swim and dive team.
"Representing the Philippines has long been an dream of mine," states Lobedecis. "Seeing Team Philippines on major stages such as the SEA Games and the Olympics always brings my Filipino pride and reinforces my love for our country. The chance to represent the Philippines further strengthens my sense of belonging within the Filipino community, an experience that brings great pride to both myself and my family."
Fiona's father hails from Bulan, Sorsogon, while her mother comes from Hinundayan, Southern Leyte. Fiona's journey into elite-level diving began in the fifth grade when she took lessons with the USC Diving Club. By eighth grade, she started to pursue diving seriously. Like many Filipino-American athletes, one of Fiona's primary motivations for competing was the hope of earning a scholarship and easing the financial burden of college.
"My message to aspiring Filipino athletes is this: Don't let a single bad day or practice define your worth as an athlete," Lobedecis emphasizes. "It's perfectly normal to make mistakes and learn from them. You can't be perfect every day—we're human, not robots. Understanding and growing from those missteps are essential steps to becoming a stronger athlete."
