We are proud to announce Filipino-American distance runner, Yacine Guermali (@yacineguermali), to the Fil-Am Sports team.

Guermali recently completed his studies and athletic career at Gonzaga University. He led the Bulldogs in cross country and track and field with several NCAA Division I Championship appearances in both disciplines. He holds personal bests of 3:41 in the 1500m, and 13:33 in the 5000m, both of which are school records at Gonzaga.

Yacine was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to a Filipino mother. His family hails from the Nueva Vizcaya province, more specifically in the town of Solano. Yacine and his two siblings were raised in an environment that embraced Filipino culture with their grandparents and several other family members who reside in the United States.

As he transitions into post-collegiate competition, Guermali looks forward to representing the Philippines at the highest level in several middle and long-distance events.

He hopes to not only re-write the country's record books but to also grow the sport within the country and inspire the next generation of Filipino distance runners.
