We are excited to introduce Lorenzo Sison, or Enzo (@enzo_sison).
Sison competed for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Track and Field. In 2021, he established a new personal best with mark of 16-4 3/4 to win pole vault in the Spring Break Invitational. Sison attended Bellarmine Prep and grew up in Menlo Park, California.
Enzo’s father is from Manila and his mother from Redding, California. “I am blessed to have a large family,” states Sison. “My parents have always been extremely supportive of my athletic journey, exposing me to lots of sports at a young age and allowing me to pursue what I liked best. My mom and dad were the first to suggest I try pole vaulting, which is my deepest passion today.”
Sison is deeply rooted in the Filipino culture and and expresses his desire to represent the Philippines. “I've grown up hearing stories of the Philippines from my dad, grandparents, aunts, and uncles,” adds Sison. “Being Filipino is deeply rooted in who I am and my family. I want to bring as much glory as I can to the Philippines.”
“Family and spirituality are the two most important pillars of life,” adds Sison. “I grew up in a religious family, which included twelve years of Catholic school. We attended mass every Sunday, and it was a way for us to connect with each other and our community. I also started altar serving in the 4th grade. Religion was intertwined with everything from my classes to athletics.”
“I’ve had fantastic role models in my life—my family, my coaches, and veteran teammates have shaped who I am today. I feel it's my responsibility to be the best man I can be, to pursue my efforts on the track with dedication and grit, and to be for the younger generation what my heroes were to me growing up. When someone says they look up to me, it means I've contributed to their dreams and vision of success in some way, and that deeply moves me and makes me feel thankful for the position I'm in.”
