Ed Lasquete
Ed Lasquete is an accomplished athlete, coach, and player personnel with over three decades of experience in Philippine sports. He was a member of the 1992 Philippine Olympic team in Barcelona and co-founded FilAm Sports with Bo Navarro to assist athletes of Filipino descent in navigating the Philippine sports system. This support includes assistance in acquiring Philippine citizenship, sponsorships, and competition planning.
Lasquete, a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose, California, is a trailblazer in the world of athletics. He became the first Asian in history to break the 5.0 meter mark in the pole vault, a record that stood for 22 years until it was broken by Ernest (EJ) Obiena in 2014, whom Lasquete also coaches. After high school, Lasquete attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he won the 1990 California State Championship and was named an NCAA All-American. He later won gold medals in the pole vault in the 1991, 1993, and 1995 Southeast Asian Games and took silver in the 1997 SEAG in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Lasquete is responsible for player recruitment, planning, representation, and day-to-day logistics of all FilAm Sports athletes worldwide. He is a strong advocate of life-long learning, improvement, and development.
“FilAm Sports plays a crucial role in Philippine sports because we are committed to identifying and selecting the best athletes to represent the country. We provide our athletes with the necessary support and resources to maximize their potential, including their needs, and operate in the best interest of both the athlete and the Philippines,” says Lasquete.
